Best in Equine Care

Does your horse need its hooves trimmed or balanced? How about a new set of shoes? The team at Sunshine Coast Farrier Services are specialists in equine hoof care across the Sunshine Coast, Gympie, Woodford and surrounding areas.

We have to combine a blacksmith’s skills of fabricating, adapting and adjusting metal shoes with some of a veterinarian’s knowledge of horse anatomy, particularly the physiology of their legs. If we see your horse requires more care, we will happily recommend treatment by a vet. We also have emergency stabling for therapeutic cases.

Sunshine Coast Farrier Services owner, Adam Tighe, and his staff are committed to developing their skills through training and many hours in their Landsborough forge.

Our family-run business provides:

  • Custom-made horseshoes
  • Hoof & limb assessment
  • Hoof reports
  • Horse shoeing
  • Horse trimming
  • Mobile service
  • Onsite workshop
  • Therapeutic/corrective farriery

Professional Horse Care

Enjoy the peace of mind knowing your horse is in professional hands with Sunshine Coast Farrier Services. Great care and consideration are high priorities in any service we deliver. When it comes to shoeing, our farriers will ensure they have a level surface for the shoe to be nailed to and keep the wall of the hoof fairly even.

Our farrier will make or select a shoe to suit your horse and the job you want your animal to do. Shoes can be fitted hot or cold, but shoeing hot seals up tubules that have a membrane in them, keeping the moisture in the hoof. It will also cauterise any infections.

No aspect of maintenance should be put off. Contact our experts to schedule regular check-ups to suit you and your horse.

Meet the staff

Adam Tighe

The love of farriery has taken Adam all over the world to work, compete and judge. He grew up in Central Queensland, working with  horses from an early age. From 15-19, he com bined being a jockey with contract mustering and horse breaking, but a struggle with weight led to him shoeing stock horses and some racehorses in Roma, Queensland. Adam relocated to the Sunshine Coast in 2007, starting Sunshine Coast Farrier Services from scratch. With a passion for delivering high-quality services, he has built-up certifications while improving farrier knowledge in America, England and South Africa.

Jason Roberts

Originally from South Africa, Jason has been in Australia for four years. A farrier for 25 years, he had his own practice in Cape Town, where he also owned a show jumping and adjustment yard of 45 horses. The former showjumper, who had also competed overseas, has ridden horses since he was six. He volunteered at the equestrian events at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

Tyler Ray May

Having grown up on Magnetic Island, Tyler moved to Glasshouse Mountains in 2013. He chose a career in farriery on the completion of high school. In the second year of a four-year apprenticeship, Tyler’s passion for the industry has grown a lot in the past 12 months. As well as shoeing, he has been studying to become a fully qualified farrier, practised his forging skills in the workshop and entered online shoemaking competitions. Tyler worked alongside Adam for a year prior to starting his apprenticeship.
